Dan Ghenacia is quintessential Parisian; it is all about the quality.
Ghenacia’s musical style - since he debuted as a DJ in the mid-nineties - has not changed to suit a trend, the size of the dancefloor, nor changed to suit an opinion. His sets are slow, deep and intense - building and twisting minimal basslines with seductive beats and stripped down grooves until you are pulled and locked in to his dark and intimate selection.
Ghenacia established his name through his now infamous Sunday morning party "Kwality" at Le Batofar, an old boat moored on the River Seine in the South of Paris. The residency (held from 98-01 – after which he played a monthly Saturday until 2004) allowed late night clubbers to mix with off-duty DJs and people who should really be in bed.
But it's at his weekly residency for the trendy and forward thinking after-party Kwality at Le Batofar, a boat moored on the Seine River in the 13th arrondissement that Dan Ghenacia had definitely established his name. From industry people to parisian late night clubbers, les "Afters du Batofar" have become for the past three years the most unexpected underground night in the Camembert capital.
In 2001 Ghenacia began taking his sound internationally, playing at such
venues as Fabric (London), Secret Sundaze (London), Tenax (Florence),
Back 2 Basics (Leeds) and parties in Berlin, Barcelona, Moscow and more.
In 2004 Ghenacia started another Sunday residency in Paris at "‘Le
Zebre", an intimate, old theatre in Eastern Paris.
Strictly a winter, night-time affair (the summer is for Ibiza) the "Freak'N'Chic"
night (also the name of his label) quickly became the most talked about
party in Paris and continued again throughout winter 05/spring 06. DJs
including Damian Lazarus, Steve Bug, Luciano, Magda, Guido Schneider,
John Tejada, Craig Richards and his Freak’N’Chic label-mates
Jamie Jones, Dyed Soundroom, :Terry: and Andrea Ferlin have joined Ghenacia
- invariably making this the most musically inspiring and definitive night
in Paris to attend.
In April Le Zebre finished for the summer months and Ghenacia returned
to Le Batofar for a new monthly residency "Puzzle" - the underground
sound of Paris for the underground Parisians.
