Ali Wells is just about to release his new EP A New Brutality, which follows one of the finest LPs of 2011: Wicker & Steel. Once again under his Perc umbrella, it’s all about industrial, noise and techno – a mixture which recently also attracted someone over at The Guardian. Check it out for yourself in a preview released [...] One of the unsung heroes of British house music, self-proclaimed music freak Luke Solomon present a mix that charts the influences of his new side project, Mother Rose, from The Dead Weather to Captain Beefheart. A man of many monikers, Luke stated his DJ career in the early-90s and established himself early on as a connoisseur [...] Much has been made of Ali ‘Perc’ Wells’ status as descendant of the likes of Throbbing Gristle’s Chris Carter or Einsturzende Neubauten – techno practitioners as animators of the body industrial. But there’s another, far less vogueish, reference point that crops up again and again throughout his work: near-sickeningly intense, grime-ridden, squat party acid techno. [...] This could well be the mix album that gives Luke Solomon the recognition he deserves as a purveyor of some seriously high quality dance music. ‘Cutting Edge’ proves to be just that, perfectly paced and executed, with a number of vocal tracks that get right to the core emotionally.
