RIVA STARR – Defected in the House, Miami’10

Riva - Defected400pix

Released March 15th. 2 x CD, Digital

Super hard beach bodies, 24 hour pool parties, fast cars and the
world’s best DJ’s, it can only be one place… South beach, Miami
and the Winter Music Conference 2010.

It’s that time of year again where all you hear is ‘Are you going to Miami?’, with DJs talking about their big tunes,
punters booking their breaks and record companies shouting about their ‘ultimate’ events.
If you have never been you may have wondered what all the fuss was about, those who have experienced will be well
aware that it is a week of insanity, comparable to a whole season of Ibiza squashed into 5 short days. It’s all about
hot bodies, pool parties, and dancing until dawn, al fresco.
If you are a dance music lover, this is as essential as its gets. The WMC has been responsible for breaking the world’s
best loved dance tracks consistently every year. Every DJ has his own personal tune that he knows will destroy the
dance floor, tunes that will inevitably make up your summer soundtrack. It’s these new tunes that make up the
essence of Miami.
Defected Records endeavours to give you a heads up on all these records in advance. Every year they scour playlists,
interrogate DJs and get the best recommendations possible. The result is Defected In The House Miami 10, the sound
of the Winter Music Conference as seen by the world’s best producers.
This year the honour of mixing the compilation has gone to an artist that is currently one of the hottest properties in
dance music. His fans include Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Joris Voorn and Claude Von Stroke and he is famous for his
bouncy, energetic and main room sound, his mixes and productions are full of humour, crazy instruments, trombones,
horns and pounding infectious beats. This really is the DJ du jour; we proudly present Riva Starr.
Check out his own insane production and opener of CD2, ‘I Was Drunk’, a signature Riva Starr production. Catchy,
humorous, with a vibe that makes you want to dance, borrowing a gypsy style sound and clocking up an impressive
quarter of a million views on YouTube.
It’s not just his own productions that attract attention, his remix of Reboot’s Enjoy Music is highly infectious and his
eagerly anticipated exclusive remix of Dennis Ferrer ‘Hey Hey’ possibly this year’s most talked about house record has
the makings of a stone-cold classic.

If you’ve ever been to a club, bar or house party where the DJ was playing House music, the likelihood is that at least one
of the records you heard was signed to Defected. For the last 10 years they’ve been releasing tunes that have defined the
scene and are now unquestionably the global authority within the genre.
Every year, more than half a million people attend Defected In the House events around the globe. Operating in more than
40 countries, Defected are the most internationally recognisable dance brand in the world with a reputation built on the
love of music. With millions of records sold globally, the label has worked with some of the biggest names in the business,
and is responsible for introducing talents such as Bob Sinclar, Junior Jack, ATFC, Sandy Rivera and Copyright to an everhungry
audience.
Where other labels have struggled to keep up with a volatile market, Defected have embraced the prevalence of the digital
age. They have also initiated some of the most reliable brands in the compilations market, including the ‘In the House’
compilation series. In more recent years, Defected has formed strong affiliations and solid partnerships with some of the
most established labels in the game including seminal imprints Strictly Rhythm, Subliminal, Junior Boys Own, Slip & Slide .
From its first release to its last, Defected’s sound has been deeply rooted in classic soul and disco, and while their sound
has no doubt developed over the last decade with techier signings, this firm belief in the essential musicality of house has
never faded.
