There are few pleasures in life quite like a Freemasons mix that goes fast-slow-fast, and the duo’s rework of the next Yasmin single (which was very listenable to start with) is one such treat.

You have to listen to the whole thing to truly grasp its glory, but we will understand and in time forgive if you feel the need to head straight for the songy meat in the rave sandwich.

Better Than Love’ is a Hurts song that has already been released.

But fear not! When it comes out again in May as the AA-side to ‘Illuminated’ it comes with some exciting and danceable mixes. The Freemasons one is today’s Song Of The Day HENCE YOU READING THIS NOW.

In this mix the Freemasons address two big issues we always had with the original. Firstly, they have made it more banging where before it sometimes seemed a little too delicate and dignified for its own good. Secondly, we were never convinced that the “turn away, turn away” bit was the proper chorus, but not enough was made of the (far better) “does it feel…” bit for that to be the chorus either. So it was all a bit confusing. The Freemasons’ solution? The “does it feel…” bit is now twice as long, thus making it quite clear that it is the chorus and was all along. We can now go back to the original Hurts version knowing exactly what is what, and if one sign of a great remix is not that it makes you hear the original through new ears, well, we don’t know what is. A sign. (Of a great remix.) That sentence sort of span out of control a bit didn’t it.
